Celebrating 25th internaut day : 25 years ago the web opened up to the world

Internet has become most essential and common part of daily life but it was not always like this. Because Internet were limited to researchers and academics before the development of the World Wide Web by Tim Berners-Lee in 1989.

August 23, 1991, 25 years ago today. Internet went public, as the World Wide Web was available everyone. And “internauts” began to include the general public. The term internaut is made from a combination of “internet” and “astronaut.” Today, there are over 3 billion internauts in world which is around 40% of the world population. In 1995, it was less than 1%.

Milestones: The first billion was reached in 2005. The second billion in 2010. The third billion in 2014. There are over 1 billion websites on the world wide web today. In 1991, there was 1 website.

Status About Some Internet Giants: 

Google : 40,000 search queries every second on average, which translates to over 3.5 billion searches per day and 1.2 trillion searches per year worldwide.
YouTube : As per 2014, 300 hours of new videos were uploaded to the site every minute. The site has 800 million unique users a month.
Twitter : 6,000 tweets every second, which corresponds to over 350,000 tweets sent per minute, 500 million tweets per day and around 200 billion tweets per year.
Facebook : The first social network to surpass 1 billion registered accounts and currently it has 1.59 billion monthly active users.
