Yahoo is shutting down its Several Products like Yahoo Games and live text

Yahoo has announced its Q1 2016 progress report, Company wants to simplify the business by closing several products and regional sites; and focusing on strengths across seven core consumer products: Mail, Search, Tumblr, News, Sports, Finance and Lifestyle.

Company is shutting down its Yahoo Games site and publishing channel will be discontinued as of Friday, May 13, 2016. This impacts all territories: US, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and United Kingdom.

Yahoo games was first launched on 1998; starting March 14, 2016, user will no longer be able to make any in-game purchases on the Yahoo Games site. Company says that, they have reached out to game publishers and asked them to develop a transition plan for players in the coming days.

Yahoo Livetext is being shut down at the end of March 2016. Yahoo's silent video chat app ( Livetext ) was first launched in July 2015. As you might expect, Company says that, they plan to incorporate the learnings and features into Yahoo products including Yahoo Messenger.

Yahoo will shut down some Regional Media Properties, In the coming weeks, genre-specific media properties to streamline editorial offering to focus on four core content areas: News, Sports, Finance and Lifestyle.

  • Yahoo Astrology will close in the UK, France, Germany, Spain and India.

  • Yahoo Maktoob (Arabic and English) genre-specific media sites, including News, Celebrity, Movies, Style, Helwa, Sports and Weather, will close and the pages will redirect to the Yahoo Maktoob homepages in Arabic and English.

Yahoo is going to shut down Yahoo BOSS ( Build your Own Search Service  ) the company’s attempt to provide an open search web services platform. Company discontinuing BOSS JSON Search API and BOSS Hosted Search, as well as the BOSS Placefinder and Placespotter APIs, on March 31, 2016. Company is recommending developers to try YPA, a new Javascript solution, for publishers who manage their own search engine results pages. Now with free algorithmic web results, publishers can monetize across desktop, tablet or mobile web with Yahoo search ads. Moving forward, Yahoo Mobile Developer Suite for mobile developers.
